Flashindustries Tutorials :: Adobe Photoshop New York Wave Disaster
New York Wave Disaster
Submitted by Acer on May 8th, 2008
We will be creating this:

First of all get a photo like this one:

and a wave image like this one:

Then open the first picture, i.e like the liberty statue photo or what ever you've chosen.

then get the pen tool: and trace the around the statue. You should have something like this now:

Now you should have a pen tool layer above the statue image click on it and go to "Layers > Merge Down"

(if that option isn't available go back to you pen tool layer and click the paint brush file or something and click on it, you will be presented with a window saying something like you cant do this because of some reason, click ok now it should work because its no longer a shape layer)

Now create a new layer and drag it beneath the statue layer, now click on the statue layer which is now above a blank layer, and click the magic wand tool and select the white area surrounding the statue and now there should be little ants crawling along the edges of the white. press the Return (Enter) key.

Now u should have the statue and a blank background with white and gray squares.

Now open the Big Wave image and opens it..it will open in a separate window this is okay, just drag it across into the window were using... it will appear as a layer, drag it to the bottom. It should now look like this:

Now duplicate the statue file. and hide the original, hide it by pressing this button beside the layer, this is just in case you screw the next step up, so you have a back up copy

Now click the statue copy layer, and click this tool button: and cut across the bottom of the statue.

You should now have something looking like this:

-------------------------------------------------
Now download this brush set and install it into photoshop.

-------------------------------------------------

Once you've done that, create a new layer above the statue layer and another one below it. Select the brush and make the color white and the second one a sort of light blue/white color. Change the brush size to something like 68px. and select the new layer above the statue layer and start brushing at the left hand side of the statue JUST THE LEFT HAND SIDE! You may want to change the opacity of the brush every now and then to give a better effect.

Now select the layer below the statue layer and start brushing at the back bit of the statue so it looks like the wave is hitting the back of it. You may also want to create another layer on the top and put some brushing over the torch at the top.
